Paraguay – new policy, research for health

Creating a national system for research for health

Paraguay has confirmed its interest in research for health as a national priority, with the adoption of its National Policy on Research, Technological Development and Innovation for Health.

The policy, backed by a Presidential Decree, places Paraguay in the group of countries that have moved beyond health research – that develops medicines and interventions – to a broader country research strategy that mobilizes science and technology to improve health and prevent illness. The concept of research for health covers all research that improves the health status of the population, whether biomedical, social or clinical.
