Description: Following the recommendations of the Promotion and Advocacy Workshop for ENHR (Yaounde, December 2000), the process of Priority Setting was put in place to: Identify Cameroon’s specific health problems, as well as to design and evaluate action programmes to deal with them.Joint international effort to find new knowledge, methods and technologies for addressing the global health problems most relevant to the country.Channel resource allocations and donor investment in health to areas of highest priority.Address issue of equity (in relation to imbalances in health status and research capacities).Attend the needs of the most vulnerable groups of the population.Qualitative and quantative data was collected using an inclusive and participatory methodology (i.e. including a broad spectrum of stakeholders and the civil society). As a result the top disease, health services problem and socio-cultural were identified as malaria, poor environmental sanitation and poor latrine usage respectively.This priority setting exercise will be an important component for the national health research agenda.
