Description: On January 26-29 2000, a consultative workshop on health research capacity development was held in Bagamoyo (Tanzania). Workshop participants made an assessment of capacity needs at individual, institutional and network level, and suggested strategies to fulfil these needs. The workshop identified three major skills which are necessary for good leadership and effective research management. A proposal was also drawn up to address the issues of capacity building with the current health sector reforms.
