Description: This policy Document provides guidelines for health research in Senegal for 2000-2005. Recent developments in the field of health research (e.g. establishment of department for research and education within the Ministry of Health, development of a fund for research, and the establishment of ethical and scientific committees for research) made it necessary to provide these new strategic directions. They are the outcome of a long process including research studies and an evaluation of health research projects already conducted, and regional and national level workshops.The four main objectives of health research as defined in the plan are:* capacity strengthening for operational health research* improvement of coordination of health research through the establishment of the ‘Comité National de Recherche en Santé’* defining priorities for operational research* developing partnerships for health research
