Report on Health Research in Jordan

Topic: Eastern Mediterranean consultative process, in preparation for the International Conference on Health Research for Development (Bangkok, 2000)

Place: Jordan

Description: This study was conducted within the framework of the formulation of the ENHR National Plan for Nicaragua. To carry out the study, seven regional workshops were held in the seven different SILAIS (Local Systems of Integral Health Care). The participants were: representatives of the different regions of the country, delegates of the Ministry of Health, representatives of the community, of research centres and health schools. Based on the research priority setting methodology – using the ENHR strategy – this study showed the following results:

While research activity is permanent, it is minimal and isolated and is not linked to action.Official mechanisms for disseminating research results are non-existent. The absence of national policies for technological development, as well as for planning and coordination with other institutions involved in health research, were identified as factors that block research development.
