Description: Cuba is currently facing a restructuring of its health research system in which the state will reduce its financial input and research institutes will be encouraged to seek more external funding. In this situation, good governance becomes particularly important. The report summarises the discussions (which took place during a workshop in June 2001) on how the functions of the health research system – governance, knowledge production, management and use, financing and capacity development – could be improved and developed at all levels.
