Linking Applied Research with Health Policy

Topic: Proceedings of an International Workshop, February 25-28, 1996, Cuernavera/Mexico

Organization: Applied Diarrheal Disease Research (ADDR)

Description: An analysis of health research in Chile is made. Research investment, among 0.6 to 0.8% of the GNP, is far from developed countries and Chile has not defined relevant health problems where a research effort would have an impact on public health. A number of suggestions are made, including a greater involvement of the Ministry of Health in creating a national prioritised research agenda and increasing its association with universities. Also training programmes for professionals with a special interest in research should be devised.
