Kenya: Health research priority setting

Topic: Priority setting

Description: In September 2000, a COHRED supported workshop on research capacity strengthening took place in Kenya. Its main objective was to analyse the recent assessments of the health research system and to develop a specific action plan for the coming years.

Group work focused on the following issues:
– Country-driven (demand driven) research capacity strengthening
– Competencies required for effective participation of all stakeholders in health research
– Competencies required for addressing the research needs of the various partners as well as packaging and marketing information on best practices after the research is conducted
– Competencies required for the health research system to improve equity in health services
– Capacity strengthening with regard to resource identification and mobilisation, and skills required to harness these resources for health research.

To carry out this analysis and to develop an action plan, COHRED’s main partner was the National Health Research and Development Centre (NHRDC) based in Nairobi, Kenya.
