Description: This Newsletter was created to with the aim to widely disseminate information on the various aspects, activities and progress regarding the process of implementing ENHR in Nicaragua, and health research issues in general.

This issue presents the Executive Summary of the Workshop on Health Development and ENHR in Nicaragua (April 1994), which was supported by COHRED. It also includes the “Nicaraguan Declaration on ENHR”, conceived by the participants of the workshop. During this workshop, the Ministry of Health provided a list of research priorities on hygiene and communicable diseases.

Finally, this issue reports on the Meeting on Socio-cultural Research (May 1994). This event highlighted the importance of going beyond simple technical studies and, instead, valuing a qualitative and a gender approach to study communities’ perceptions of health.
