Description: Formed in 1998, the COHRED Working Group on Research to Action and Policy strove to improve the understanding of the issues underlying the frequent gap between research and its practical implementation. It focuses particularly on the decision-making aspect. One of the aims was to try and identify capacity development needs to help countries in their efforts to make research an effective tool for health development. The Working Group’s findings and resulting lessons learned have been compiled in this issues paper.
The publication includes case studies from seven countries: Brazil, Burkina Faso, Indonesia, Lithuania, Pakistan, South Africa, and Uruguay. This was made up of a combination of Document analysis, interviews with researchers and decision-makers, and in several cases, the personal experience of case study authors in the research-policy process. These were employed to Document the use of research around a health problem or development effort.
