COHRED and Global Forum for Health Research agree to organizational integration

National research and innovation for health will be strengthened by global platform, and global advocacy will get an anchor in national research systems

Geneva, November 19, 2010. The Global Forum for Health Research and COHRED – the Council on Health Research for Development – reached an agreement this week for the integration of the two organisations – which will benefits countries and the global health research community.

Both organizations have been active in working together after the signing of the MOU last year. The activities they have been involved since, include the participation of COHRED at the ACHR meeting last November in Panama, the joint organization in Havana during the Forum 2009 of the Follow up Meeting to the Rio Conference, , the development of the Health Research Web Americas, and an active search of information and documents in the region to upload to the participating countries sites, and training on the use of the Health Research Web to interested countries.

Africa experts and policy makers explore boosting countries’ progress in pharmaceutical innovation

Pretoria, 23 February, 2010 – A group of experts and policy makers from across Africa tabled practical approaches and action points aimed at boosting pharmaceutical innovation on the continent. Their emphasis was on putting countries in the drivers’ seat for their medicines access, development and local production. This was the conclusion of the extended technical committee of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plan for Africa, in Pretoria, concluded on February 20.

Partnership to strengthen health research in 15 West African countries

COHRED and the West African Health Organization (WAHO) have signed a cooperation agreement to support the region’s 15 countries to increase the capacity of their research organisations to produce evidence that meets these populations’ priority health needs.

The partnership kicked-off in January with a regional consultation between policy and research teams from countries in the region.
